2/19/2023 0 Comments Hemangioma spineIt is a malformation that can grow and bleed and cause serious problems because of it. It must be made clear that the angioma is not a tumor that can become malignant or metastasize (this term refers to an extension of the tumor to a distant part of the body). These complications, when they occur, are usually in the dorsal area of the spine and affect women more often than men. Only 3.7 of VH may become active and symptomatic, and 1 may invade the spinal canal and/or paravertebral space. The other possibility is that the angioma bleeds and causes a bruise that compresses the cord. Vertebral hemangioma (VH) is virtually vascular malformation, which is usually asymptomatic. It can also fracture the vertebra and indirectly cause the damage. The vertebral hemangioma is a vascular structure (formed by tissue from blood vessels) that is located inside the vertebra due to an error in embryonic development. The angioma can grow and directly damage the cord. This can be done by compressing it for different reasons. The most dangerous thing that can happen to patients is that the angioma damages the spinal cord. We must remember that the vertebrae surround the spinal cord, which is the structure that contains the nerves that descend from the brain to distribute the nerves throughout the body. The problem can come when these lesions grow, expand and cause damage to the structures that surround them. It is exceptional to see a vertebral fracture due to a hemangioma. After experiencing horrific pain for two years in my right arm and muscle loss in both, I have now been told that the probable source of the pain is coming from a 1.5 cm hemangioma at C5. 40 of patients underwent a spinal fusion, with two of these patients receiving concurrent intra-operative vertebroplasty. The most common surgery was laminectomy at the site of the lesion (70). Seven of the ten patients presented with back or leg pain. It must be made clear that angiomas rarely cause problems. Eight out of ten patients had aggressive hemangioma of the thoracic spine.
